My real introduction to funk and soul, and of course it's Godfather: James Brown, came around 1990 in my Nashville days. I immersed myself in the genre when I asked to fill in as a substitute guitarist for a funk horn band, called Nuevo Be-bop. Good times...

Twenty years later, "funk" now being my regular groove of choice, I must have written this tribute to JB in my sleep. I woke up and quickly recorded a quick demo in Apple's Garageband using loops and samples. I went back to sleep and forgot it. Later the next year, I was considering songs for my own little all-girl (except me) funk project. I vaguely remembered the demo and went hunting. I found it and thought, "wow, that's cool!" What I found was so cool already in it's infant stage, that most of the sounds you hear were part of the original demo!

Now, if they would only bring the T.A.M.I. show back...  '-)

わたしが本格的にファンクとソウルミュージックを始めたのは、ナッシュビルにいた1990年頃です。ファンクとソウルと言えば、もちろんジェイムズ・ブラウンですね。ヌーボ・ビーボップというファンクホーンバンドで、代理でギタリストをさせてもらった時に、この分野にはまりました。いい時代でした。
 
20年後の今、「ファンク」はわたしがよく書くジャンルになっていて、眠っている間に、このジェイムス・ブラウン賛歌を書いたようです。目を覚まして、すぐにループとサンプル手法で、アップルのガレージバンドにデモを録音したのですが、そのまままた眠りにつき、そのデモのことは忘れてしまいました。 翌年になって、（わたしを除く）全員が女性と言う、ファンクミュージックプロジェクトのために、曲を考えていました。あのデモの存在を何となく思い出し、探してみました。見つけた時に、「わあ、これ、すごくいい！」と思ったのです。 最初の段階からすでに良く出来ていたので、今お聞きの大部分は元々のデモからのものなんですよ！

あとは、T.A.M.I.ショー（注）を再放送してくれれば・・・(笑)。
（注）the T.A.M.I. (Teen Age Music International) ショー・・・アメリカのコンサート映画で、日本では「ビートパレード」の名前で、1966年に公開された。ローリングストーンズなど、そうそうたるアーティストが出演している。ジェイムズ・ブラウンの伝説的な演奏が収録されていることでも有名。また、この映画は、スティングなど多くのミュージシャンに影響を与えた。
